For years we have seen people who mod their
cases. From a basic window in the side to a custom paint job, multiple windows,
laser cut fan grills, and watercooling - cases have been modded in every way
possible. If you?ve run out of things to do to your case, or you just want
something different, this mod is for you. Imagine going to a LAN with a modded
case AND monitor. Consider that case mod contest won!
Materials
-1 monitor (or 2, if you so desire)
-1 sheet of lexan/acrylic (size is up to you, should be about 85% of the size of
the vented part of the top of your monitor)
-Either double-sided tape or acrylic cement
-Your trusty Dremel
-1-4 4? CCFLs or 1-2 12? CCFLs, depending on the size of your monitor
-Cat5 or some other wire to run from the monitor to your computer.
DISCLAIMER: Monitors store enough voltage
to severely harm or even kill you. If you perform this mod, TwistedMods is not
responsible for anything that happens to you or someone around because of
failure to heed the electrical warnings on your monitor. Additionally,
TwistedMods is not responsible for anything that happens that may cause your
monitor or computer to cease correct functionality.
SIDENOTE: Windowing a monitor reduces the
effectiveness of the ventilation system and therefore can reduce the life of
your monitor due to overheating. If you do this mod, it is suggested that you
add fans to either side, or to your window, as will be shown in Part II of this
guide.
